Fluid balance plays an important role in cellular function, health and physiological regulation. The body’s water is distributed primarily between intracellular fluid (ICF) — the fluid inside cells — and extracellular fluid (ECF), which includes fluid in the interstitial spaces and blood plasma.
A Flowpresso research investigation examined whether a single 40-minute session was associated with measurable changes in these fluid compartments.
Six patients participated in a 40-minute Flowpresso session.

Fluid status was measured immediately before and after the Flowpresso session using Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS) and an ImpediMed SOZO device.
Bioimpedance measurements use a painless electrical current passed through the body to measure resistance and reactance.
The SOZO BIS system uses these signals to provide a non-invasive assessment of fluid and tissue status. The paper notes that ImpediMed’s BIS technology has been studied across more than 500 peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 disease states or medical conditions.
Following one 40-minute Flowpresso session, the study reported changes in both fluid compartments.

This paper explains that approximately two-thirds of total body water is located within the intracellular space, while one-third is extracellular. The extracellular compartment includes interstitial fluid and plasma. Maintaining appropriate fluid distribution is important for normal cellular and physiological function.
In this small observational investigation, a single 40-minute Flowpresso session was associated with an average 2% increase in intracellular fluid and 3% decrease in extracellular fluid, as measured using bioimpedance spectroscopy.
These findings provide an interesting area for further investigation into how Flowpresso may influence fluid distribution following treatment.
