The Challenge

Stress can have a significant impact on sleep quality, fatigue and overall wellbeing. Researchers investigated whether weekly Flowpresso sessions could improve subjective measures of sleep and fatigue in stressed individuals.

The Flowpresso Protocol

Participants received:

  • 1 Flowpresso session per week
  • 40 minutes per session
  • 6-week intervention period
  • Flowpresso treatment combining deep pressure stimulation and far-infrared heat

Sleep and fatigue were assessed using questionnaires, including the PROMIS Sleep Disturbance – Short Form and the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale. The fatigue assessment included physical, cognitive and psychosocial components.

The proportion of participants identified as having mild to moderate sleep disturbance decreased from 73% (8 of 11) to 9% (1 of 11).

The Technology

Flowpresso delivers deep pressure stimulation combined with far-infrared heat. Its individually controlled chambers inflate sequentially, beginning at the feet and progressing through the legs, torso, upper back and arms.

What the Study Found

Following six weeks of weekly Flowpresso treatments, the study found improvements in subjective sleep quality and fatigue.

The researchers concluded that:

“A combination of mechanical deep pressure stimulation and far infra-red heating was effective at alleviating fatigue and improving subjective sleep quality.”

The study also highlighted the potential relevance of improved sleep and recovery in contexts including sport and exercise science
